2026 Bowen Bull Sale

Welcome everyone to our 31st Annual Bowen Bull Sale.

We hope this welcome season change is supporting everyone. It certainly has been a turbulent year in weather — we had floods in August, then the tap turned off.

Our cattle market has remained very resilient given the late summer and autumn cattle numbers presented for sale. Market analysts are forecasting an improving market trend into 2027 — the world is short of protein.

There is certainly a gap in the market for top-end, culinary-focused beef production.

Please inspect our website for Bowen Genetics research from the last seven years into meat eating quality traits. Professor Aduli has identified SNPs that are directly related to marbling, fat melting point and Omega-3 acid profiles. We are pursuing these traits without compromising livestock performance in the paddock or on the scales.

Recently, Bowen had 94 of the 628 steers in the contemporary pen at the Teys feedlot Condamine, Qld, from December 2025 to March 2026. The feedback recently received has been very impressive. The steers from Bowen had, on average, a 9.5kg heavier carcase weight, higher daily weight gain, higher MSA score, lower ossification by an average of 26 points and 1% higher lean meat yield.

The Bowen Hereford steers gained up to 2.8kg per day. Bowen’s net feed efficiency was impressive. For the overall contemporary group of 628 steers to gain 1kg of body weight, the average consumed was 6.587kg of feed. The Bowen steers within this group consumed, on average, 6.153kg of feed to gain the same 1kg of body weight.

Congratulations to the Newbury Family — Kamara Grazing were awarded the overall individual Grand Champion at the Bindaree Food Group feedlot trial and carcase competition in Inverell. He was the son of a Peakes Bowen Black Pearl bull purchased at the Bowen Bull Sale.

Great results for long-time clients the Cabot Family of Doonba Pastoral Co, Barraba, who sold the top-priced pen of steers at the Tamworth early bird sale in March. The line of 72 Peakes Bowen Angus blood steers averaged $1,960 to top the weaner section of the day.

Congratulations to the Paterson family of Heart Angus Stud on the success of their female sale held in April. Top-priced heifer Heart Bara W1 sold to Banquet Angus Stud, Victoria, for $34,000. She was sired by Peakes Bowen Black Pearl P645, purchased for the top price of $28,000 at the 2020 Bowen Bull Sale. The second top-priced heifer, Heart Dolly W75, sold to Knowla Livestock, Gloucester, for $22,000. Her dam, Heart Dolly T122, was also sired by Peakes Bowen Black Pearl P645.

Congratulations to Kierin and Nikki Martin of Kianma Poll Hereford Stud, breeders and exhibitors of Kianma Matchless R010, which was awarded Grand Champion Hereford Female at the 2026 Sydney Royal Show in April. The Matchless family continues to perform at the highest level and traces back to the renowned Bowen Matchless L140. She was a leading donor cow for Richard and Loraine Moteby of Rilo Park Poll Herefords and produced many champions and high-selling progeny.

Peakes Bowen Angus sale bulls have a variety of sire lines on offer, with Landfall Signature S1755, Milwillah Powerpoint R318, Milwillah Identity P134, Peakes Bowen Regal Focus P746, Dunoon Prime Minister P758, TeMania Qarara Q514, TeMania Qountdown Q1290 and the first line of sons from Peakes Bowen Everest S557.

Bowen Poll Hereford sale bull selection includes our first sale bulls sired by Mountain Valley Sea Biscuit S114, Bowen Soloman S009, Melville Sam P469 and Bowen Porter P259. Also included are sons of Tobruk Southern Cross S015 and Yavenvale Qruger Q538.

We individually assess each bull that we select for our annual bull sale, focusing on fault-free structure, growth, doing ability, temperament, pedigree and data ratings. We want the bulls we sell to be able to go out and perform, and have longevity for the buyer.

All bulls have been fully vaccinated, including tick vaccination. Semen and morphology testing has been conducted by Brendan Coonan — Northern Artificial Breeders.

The feed history of the 2026 Bowen Bull Sale bulls: they were weaned in May 2025 onto a mixed feed ration at Barraba, then trucked to Gunnedah onto grazing oats. In early summer, they were moved onto subtropical pastures. As the season continued dry, they were then supplemented onto a light mixed feed ration of straw, silage, barley and canola meal, on which they have continued.

All bulls will be videoed and displayed on our website and AuctionsPlus.

Everyone is welcome to our pre-sale Open Day on Thursday 18th June 2026. We will have all sale bulls on display at the “Bowen” sale complex from 10am–3:30pm.
